Ah yes, it is the digital age…

All those promised flying cars and moon tourism has finally come to fruition…

Well, while we wait for that, lets all mourn the death of film (”I’m not quite dead yet”)… bring out your dead… and… celebrate the digital age of photography. Yeah, I know, it’s been here for a while, but how many have truly embraced it? How many have burned the film bridge behind them in a gallant charge into the digital age? Yeah, we did… and frankly, we aren’t looking back!

Don’t get me wrong, we (the royal we) love film and all its celluloid complexities, but c’mon, it’s the second decade of the new millennium and it’s time to move on… onward and upward!

…To Infinity and Beyond!

On a different note:

Ah Summer…

It’s been a mix of work, work and a little more work. Some photographic, some artistic, some teaching, some career, some parenting, and some athletic. All in all, it’s been good to be busy, but I think I’m due for a little respite. Don’t be surprised if I have dark circles or seem a bit weary; it’s part of the gig…

For those past and present that are wondering what this is all about, well…

I have been teaching 4 days a week at Saddleback this summer.
I add a class at UCSDx this week.
I am in the process of applying for the open full-time position at Saddleback which is going to take a lot more work than you may think.
In addition to this, I just finished completing two triathlons and a marathon all within 6 weeks of each other.
I’m the father of a 20 month old boy… ’nuff said…

Basically, I’m pretty tired.

Don’t despair though, if you are just starting a class with me, I always put in full effort, and at least the majority of my activities are complete, so I should start gaining a little color in my face and my dark circles should start to subside a bit…

Welcome to the void =)

Ok, maybe you just didn’t hear correctly…
Or maybe you were absent that day…
Or maybe aliens abducted you and removed that one memory from your cranium…

Whatever the reason, it seems a bit remiss to wait until the very last second to inquire as to due dates or about specific projects. That said, stop emailing me questions about what is due and when; it’s in your syllabus and schedule which have been provided for you since the beginning of the class in both paper and electronic form.

For those still confused:

Photo 55:
Critique begins at 6pm on Thursday.
We will critique the last 3 projects and I need to see your entire body of work created throughout the semester.

Photo 201:
Project 6 is now officially late and you will not receive credit for turning it in, so don’t bother.
Project 7 is still being accepted by disc through tomorrow (Thursday).
Nothing will be accepted after the class.
There is a final (no Scantron needed) as well as a critique.
You also have a print project due (any picture); if you don’t know the specifics for this project, then you were absent or not paying attention. This project was announced the first week of class, as well as the day it was officially assigned, and has been on the schedule the entire time.

If you pass this class, you may be interested in Photo 1; the new digital photo class starting in the new digital photography lab in the Fall. You may also be interested in Photo 51 (Photoshop) which I am teaching two sections of this summer.

All Classes:
All grades are earned, not awarded. Your grade is an evaluation of your abilities and your academic efforts. I spend a lot of time grading your work, in some cases more time than was put into the work, and make every attempt to be fair and accurate. If you passed, then good job and I hope to see you in other classes. If you did not pass, then hopefully you will try again in the future and put forth a little more effort.

As always, you may contact me beyond the class via email, just keep in mind that my response time may be delayed, so please don’t take it personally.

For those future photographers/artists, thanks for your interest and effort and I hope to see you and your work in the future =)

If you were wondering what happened to last Friday’s class, well, suffice it to say that individuals that work at the administration level were a bit hasty at pulling the trigger to cancel the class when I called to say that I was parked on the 15 northbound due to a fatality accident. I left instructions that I would be there, eventually, but they killed it anyway. So I flipped a u-turn as soon as I could, 30 minutes later, and went home and took my son to the zoo. Sorry if this caused any inconvenience other than my full tank of fuel and 5 hours of driving as well as that of my sitter…

Anywho, it’s all due next week… Come prepared…
