What are they?
An Artist statement should give
insight into the artist's thinking and process. It should give
extra information that is not found within the work but that
is related to or important to the creation of the work. An artist
statement is created for an intended audience and can relate
to a piece, a body of work or a process.
What they are not:
An artist statement should not defend the work. It should not fix
the work by adding information that should have been present in the
work. It should not be redundant to the work by describing what we
can all plainly see. It should not elevate your status through association
with famous works or artists.
